Recently I discovered an exciting medical transcription career opportunity. So I browsed the web, trying to learn as much as I could about it. Did you know that the starting salary of a medical transcriptionist is anywhere from $16,000 to $18,000 per year? Yet after two or more years of experience, they can earn up to $40,000 with the possibility of earning much more if they are self employed working as independent contractors. This made me wonder why I was stuck at my dead end career, and why I didn’t explore this opportunity sooner!

I learned more about a medical transcription career, particularly where you can find these medical transcriptionists working. Well, they work anywhere from hospitals, dentist and chiropractic clinics, doctor’s offices, healthcare agencies and other organizations! What surprised me the most was when I found out about the self employment option, where medical transcriptionists can work at home and build their own transcription service providing their services to medical professionals!

I was excited about getting my medical transcription career started, so I checked out a few educational service providers to discover how I can go about learning more and getting the skills and ability needed to succeed in the field. I found a few online courses via distance education. What does that mean? No travelling! I can study and become a medical transcriptionist from the comfort of my home! As if that weren’t enough, I still get the ability to interact with other students pursuing a medical transcription career, and interact with the instructor as well!
