Freelance Work
As a stay at home mom, raising two kids while my husband was out there earning a living, I felt that need to contribute not only to the family income, but in helping to build a future for my children. I thought about various work opportunities and businesses that I could start, but it was when I discovered freelance work that things really started to come together.
Before I got married and had children, I worked a writer for a small, local newspaper. It was there that I experienced firsthand the challenge of meeting deadlines and working on articles that would spark interest and attention in people. So when I learned about freelance work, I decided that I would become a freelance writer and provide my writing skills to those seeking it.
And so I got started. With my experience, I took a few courses to brush up on my writing ability so that I could begin my freelance work. I wrote an introductory letter which I then mailed out to the handful of contacts I made while working at the newspaper. Almost magically I got my first project within two weeks of getting started. Since then, I've been working full time, still at home though, as a freelance writer.
For those who know where to seek opportunities, freelance work is readily available for you. Provided your skills and ability are exactly what your employers seek, you should be able to secure enough work to earn a living on freelance projects.
For those who are looking for freelance work as a way to stay at home and raise a family, nothing makes a much more perfect fit. Caring for my children while earning a living is very an enriching and rewarding experience.
