Freelance Web Developer
After graduating from a technology program, seeking out positions within a company as a web developer was challenging, if not impossible. I explored many career options, but eventually landed on becoming a freelance web developer. I discovered freelancing after speaking with a few of my friends who faced the same situation as me, having completed an educational program but not being able to establish a career in web development.
But as a freelance web developer, I soon discovered that opportunities were out there, and working freelance for a number of companies was more effective and lucrative than seeking out that one company to work for on a full time basis. In fact, working with a number of companies has given me an experience that is unparalleled in the working world, and I have gotten the chance to work on many different projects, from small business web sites, to international, high budget and high traffic web sites.
Finding freelance web developer work is not easy, unless you have the right resources or unless you have the connections that will open doors for you. Being able to find work requires a lot of activity, particularly research.
There are many important skills that a freelance web developer must possess. In addition to knowing the basics of web design, HTML, and web scripting and programming languages, a freelance web developer must have effective time management skills, communication skills and have the ability to be a professional when it comes to work.
Ever since I started as a freelance web developer, I've reaped the many benefits of working on my own, defining my own hours, and embracing projects that I feel I can really contribute to. It has done a lot for my self discipline, confidence, and satisfaction with both work and life.
