Freelance Job
While I was in college, I was looking for a source of extra income so that I can reduce my dependency on student loans, pay for my text books and cover my living expenses. While my colleagues were relying on measly and simple jobs earning such a low hourly wage, I decided to explore alternative opportunities. That is how I found a freelance job as a writer.
With my English academic background, working towards my Bachelors degree and aspiring to become a teacher one day, my writing freelance job was a perfect fit for me. Not only did it allow me to gain real world experience where I can apply everything that I've learned, it gave me the opportunity to brush up on my composition and writing skills, which I found quite helpful when it came time to writing essays.
Working part time with my freelance job not only provided me with enough time to continue on with my studies, but the amount of money I was earning with my freelance work was more than sufficient to support my life as a student. Being able to have control over the hours I put into each freelance project added to the flexibility of being able to work and study at the same time.
While a freelance job is not for everyone, those who have the determination to succeed in a freelance environment and possess the self discipline and time management skills required to do freelance type work will surely benefit from the rewards of being a freelancer.
After I graduated, I continued on with my freelance job and more and more opportunities were made available to me, by employers I've worked with before and through referrals and word of mouth. This was very exciting for me, because not only did I earn enough money to consider freelancing as a full time career, my freelance job also opened doors of possibilities that provided me with the edge that I needed in life.
