Freelance Editor
When Shawn Black first started writing for a small technology
magazine, he was busy thinking up topics to write about and
meeting deadlines. Shawn didn't really feel as if he was utilizing
his real skills to the fullest and so he started looking at
other positions within the magazine to explore.
Shawn always wanted to be an editor, but being a small magazine
there wasn't much room for him to explore that option. So Shawn
thought to himself, "what if I became a freelance editor
and not only work for this magazine, but be a freelancer and
work on other magazines as well?"
That's when Shawn's career as a freelance editor really took
off. With his past experience and knowing the publishers of
a number of small magazines on a variety of topics, Shawn offered
my services as a freelance editor. For me, finding work was
easy. He was already equipped with the network of contacts that
he could depend upon, and he was talented at what I did, often
putting in long hours to meet deadlines and providing writers
with feedback on their work.
As a freelance editor Shawn did it all. Accepted submissions
from writers, provided the editing services before submitting
final renditions of each article for publishing, coordinating
topics with fellow editors and writers, and so much more. He
even expanded the scope of his work and offered editing for
online publications and web site design companies.
If you're thinking of a career as a freelance editor, first
thing to do would be to give freelance writing a try. Brush
up on your writing skills, develop a reputation with those you
do projects for, and then pursue a freelance editor opportunity.
