Freelance
Freelance programming opened up a whole new world for me,
when I first took an interest in coding for a living.
At the time, home computers were still very much a novelty, and
programming in Basic was a novel and interesting idea. I learned to
program in a few languages, and then started writing my own games,
databases and other projects.
One thing led to another, and soon I was being asked to undertake
freelance programming for a number of different companies. The
nature of the work changed, and soon I was working on mainframes,
modifying complex council systems and doing large projects for
corporations and utilities.
This was great work, but I missed the freedom of working from home,
just doing the PC freelance programming projects that suited
me. So I was very glad when the Internet came along, and a whole new
world of programming came along.
I learned new languages such as Perl, C, PHP and Javascript, and was
soon knocking out all kinds of work for all kinds of clients - in
countries all over the world.
How did I find these projects? Well, the Internet came in very handy
there, too. I found an excellent job site for freelance
programming contracts, and I haven't been short of work since.
Which site? Well, I ought to keep that to myself, so that all you
other programmers don't steal my work. But that would be a selfish
way of thinking. So here goes. I suggest you try visiting this site,
to see what freelance programming jobs you can find.
